Will Elk Grove Students Receive Soundproofing?

Students in the Elk Grove district in Chicago were disappointed when the FAA announced that the district had been removed from it’s plans to provide soundproofing. The FAA had originally promised more than $10 million in funds for soundproofing to counter the disruptions in the schools caused by the flight paths.

The FAA claims that the Chicago O’Hare airport has changed its flight paths and the schools will no longer need soundproofing. The problem is that the changes won’t go into effect until 2014 – four long years away.

After a public outcry, the FAA claims to be reviewing the situation and may add Elk Grove back to the soundproofing list. Hopefully they’ll have an answer in the New Year.
