Charleston Theatre Reopens

Monday, March 15th, 2010

The Dock Street Theater in Charleston has a rich, historic reputation. It was the sight of the nation’s first playhouse, opened originally in 1736.

Over the years the theater burnt down, evolved into a hotel, and was eventually renovated to be used as a theater again.

The theater was recently closed to undergo more than $18 million in renovations. The theater received upgrades to protect it against earthquakes, new exterior walls, reinforced stairwells, new elevators and, amongst other things, significant soundproofing work.

This is one Charleston attraction you won’t want to miss!
